During winter, our HVAC systems consume extreme amounts of energy in order to keep our homes warm, and this in turn, leads to skyrocketing bills that burn a hole through our pockets. However, homeowners who make an effort to winterize their homes before the cold season arrives rarely have it quite as hard as their “no-effort” counterparts.
Here are some home winterization tips for a cost-efficient season:
- Set the ceiling fan to a clockwise direction.
- Keep the vents of the HVAC system clean.
- Search for cracks and gaps that may need sealing.
- Upgrade the insulation for your water heater.
- Invest in a programmable thermostat.
- Set the thermostat at the lowest comfortable temperature.
