The easiest way to revamp the look of your home and give it a whole new spin is by coating on a fresh layer of paint. Don’t stick to the same old color! Be adventurous and try something new.
A good and easy way to select a wall color is by deciding first on the color scheme for the room or entire house. That way, you don’t end up with a paint color that you love but an entire home or a whole room of furniture that does not go with it.
If you aren’t sure where to begin or exactly what hue should go up on your walls, take your cue from “Color Palettes: How to Choose Color Palettes for Your Home” by Jenne Joy. Meanwhile, here a few tips to get you started on the right track:
- If you don’t know what colors you like, why not check out your closet. You wouldn’t buy clothes you didn’t like, in colors you hate; so draw from these colors you find in your closet.
- It might be easiest to start from scratch and work from the ground up. If you’ve got a rug you absolutely love, choose your color palette from that.
- To make the rooms in your home flow together, choose a color from the previous room you decorated and create a new color palette using that color.
- The dominant color you choose should make up 60 percent of the room, followed by a complimentary color that represents 30 percent of the room, followed by the accent color; which makes up 10 percent of the space.
- Don’t decorate your home based on what other people think is appropriate. Remember, it’s your home and it should reflect your style.
